![]() ![]() Now I have the two networks on 5 and 11, and that seems okay for now. I just did it two days ago and I forgot to set different channels for the two networks. It also extends that network because the b/g doesn't have as much reach as the n. The express connects to the network wirelessly to the old extreme. Mine is even more complicated because I have an old express, old extreme, and a new extreme set to n only. I don't even understand it all, I just try a different setting and update the extreme/express. Sounds complicated, but you sound as though you have delved into the manual setup before. Make sure that the express is set to bridge mode so it doesn't work as a router too. You could name the Express network to b/g. In my house, my two networks have the same beginning name but one ends in "Ultra" so I know it is n only. Have the iphone connect only to the b/g network. You should probably use the auto setup and then tweak the channel etc. Make sure that it has a different channel very far from the Extreme's channel as well. Set up a NEW wireless network on the Express with a different name. Connect the Express to one of the LAN ports on the back of the Extreme via ethernet. Anyone have the electronics sitting around to try this out that could give it a shot and get back to me? So what do you think, Apple forums? Will my little scheme work? I'm absolutely fine with the g speeds for the iPhone, as it doesn't need more than that, but my network DOES need to be at n speed overall. So I've been struggling to come up with solutions, and I may have come up with one, but I don't know if it works and don't want to spend the money to try it until I know for sure!Ĭan I connect, via ethernet, an airport express to my Macbook Pro, then share the 802.11n connection my Macbook has via the airport card built in to the Airport Express, which would then create an 802.11g network? I even had an old Airport Express laying around that was only g, but stupid me sent it to a friend in another state (as I had the Airport Extreme) to use, before I even dreamed up buying an iPhone. Anything less and things start lagging unbearably. As such, it's set up as an n-only network with extra wide channels. We also use it for time machine backups, wirelessly. We have an airport extreme with four hard drives attached to it, well over 1 TB of space, which is full of all kinds of movies/music. My roommate and I use our wireless network for a LOT of streaming. This is cross-posted in the iPhone discussion forum, b/c I'm not sure which is more appropriate. ![]()
